Content & Video · Robuilt + Funkit
Video Editor
Reports to the Founder / Creative Team
- Fully remote
- Full-time position
- Premiere Pro · After Effects
- 5–10 years experience
We're not looking for someone who can technically operate Premiere. There are a lot of those. We're looking for someone who understands that editing is writing.
Two brands, a lot of footage
Robuilt, founded by Rob Abasolo, is a leading real estate and short-term rental media brand built around education, entertainment, investing, building, and the occasional financially questionable tiny home. The content is fast-paced, personality-driven, funny, educational, and highly visual. We don't want our videos to feel like lectures about real estate. We want them to feel like entertainment that happens to teach you something.
Funkit Interiors is a short-term rental design company creating bold, memorable properties built to stand out online and perform as businesses. Funkit content lives at the intersection of interior design, real estate, transformations, Airbnb, and before-and-after storytelling.
Between the two brands, you'll edit everything from major construction projects and Airbnb experiments to dramatic property transformations, design reveals, educational breakdowns, and ridiculous things Rob probably spent too much money on. We're looking for an editor who can help us make all of it impossible to click away from.
The role
You'll primarily create long-form YouTube content for Robuilt and Funkit, with opportunities to contribute to other video formats across both brands. This isn't a role where we hand you footage and ask you to chop out the pauses. We want someone who understands storytelling, pacing, humor, retention, music, sound design, motion graphics, and visual communication.
You'll take raw footage, interviews, property walkthroughs, construction footage, design reveals, screen recordings, graphics, and whatever else we throw at you, and turn it into a polished story people actually want to finish.
Some videos will require fast-paced editing and comedy. Others need to make a beautiful property feel cinematic and aspirational. The best editor for this role knows when to go big — and when to get out of the way and let the story breathe.
What you'll do
- Edit long-form YouTube videos. Turn raw footage into polished, engaging weekly videos across the Robuilt and Funkit channels.
- Build strong stories. Find the narrative inside hours of footage and structure videos around compelling hooks, setups, payoffs, reveals, and momentum.
- Edit for retention. Pacing, pattern interrupts, visual variety, open loops, and the fundamentals of keeping viewers watching.
- Create advanced motion graphics. Design and animate text, maps, numbers, diagrams, callouts, property details, financial breakdowns, and other custom visuals that make complicated ideas easy — and fun — to understand.
- Use sound intentionally. Music, sound design, comedic timing, and audio cues that give every edit energy and personality.
- Create beautiful design content. Turn Funkit's property transformations, before-and-afters, and reveals into premium, visually compelling content.
- Collaborate with the creative team. Work closely with Rob and the broader content team on storytelling, structure, visual concepts, and creative direction.
- Give creative input. We don't want an order-taker. If you think a joke sucks, a section drags, or there's a better way to tell the story, we want to hear it.
- Maintain brand consistency. Learn the distinct personalities of Robuilt and Funkit while continuing to evolve their visual styles.
- Experiment. Bring new editing techniques, formats, transitions, graphics, memes, visual jokes, and storytelling ideas to the table.
Who you are
- 5–10 years of professional editing experience in YouTube, digital media, branded content, documentary, entertainment, or other long-form video — with instincts around story, pacing, retention, sound, and visual storytelling, not just technical proficiency with the software.
- Premiere Pro + After Effects expert. You know Premiere inside and out and have advanced experience building custom motion graphics and animations in After Effects.
- You understand YouTube. Not just how to make something look nice — why viewers click away, and how editing keeps them watching.
- You're a storyteller. You can look at a giant folder of raw footage and figure out what actually matters.
- You have range. You can make a construction video funny and frantic, then turn around and make an interior design reveal feel beautiful and cinematic.
- You understand comedy. Timing matters. Sometimes moving a cut eight frames is the difference between a joke landing and completely dying.
- You're design-minded. A strong eye for typography, composition, motion, and visual hierarchy. Especially important for Funkit.
- You're detail-oriented. You notice bad audio cuts, awkward frames, inconsistent graphics, pacing issues, and the little things other people miss.
- You're collaborative. You take feedback without being precious about your edit, and you can defend a creative decision when you believe in it.
- You're curious. You're constantly watching great channels, filmmakers, creators, ads, and documentaries wondering, “How did they do that?”
- You move fast. You know the difference between polishing something and endlessly tinkering with it.
Bonus points
Not required, but we'd love it if you have experience with:
- Real estate, architecture, construction, or interior design content
- Short-term rentals and Airbnb
- Large YouTube channels or creator-led media brands
- Documentary or reality-style storytelling
- Color grading
- Advanced sound design
- 3D animation or compositing
- Editing short-form social content
- Creating graphics from scratch rather than relying exclusively on templates
What we're looking for in your portfolio
Your experience gets you in the door. Your portfolio is what will set you apart. We want to see work that demonstrates:
- Strong long-form storytelling
- Excellent pacing
- Advanced motion graphics
- Humor and personality
- Sound design
- Clean visual design
- Strong YouTube instincts
- The ability to make complex or potentially dry topics feel entertaining
If your portfolio makes us say, “Okay… this person gets it,” we're interested.
What we offer
- Full-time remote position. Work from anywhere as part of a distributed creative team.
- Creative ownership. A meaningful hand in developing the visual identity and storytelling style of both Robuilt and Funkit.
- Interesting projects. Real estate developments, Airbnb experiments, renovations, interior transformations, builds, business stories, and some truly weird properties.
- Room to experiment. We want editors who bring ideas, not just execute ours.
- Growth opportunities. As the brands grow, there will be room to take on greater creative ownership and leadership.
- Competitive compensation. Salary based on experience, portfolio, and skill level.
The logistics
- Full-time and ongoing, reporting to the Founder and creative team. This is not one of our seasonal contracts.
- Fully remote, with availability aligned to U.S. Central Time.
- Fluent English required. Spanish is a plus.
- A machine that can actually handle long-form 4K timelines and After Effects comps, plus stable internet for moving large files.

Apply
One form covers every role across our brands, so a couple of the fields need to be set correctly for your application to reach the right place.
- Remote Positions → Video Editor
- Status → Full-Time
The form is shared with our design hiring, so please write “Video Editor — Robuilt” in the free-text question about why you're interested.
Have these ready before you start: your resume as a PDF, a reel or portfolio link (Vimeo, YouTube, or a personal site — a link is fine, and it's the part we look at hardest), and a 1–2 minute video introduction. The form lists the five questions to answer in the video. If a piece in your reel was a team effort, say what you did on it.
