Careers at Funkit
We design short-term rentals across the U.S. that get shared before a guest has even checked availability. We're hiring the designers who make that happen — fully remote, open to talent anywhere in the world.
Why Funkit
Funkit designs highly memorable short-term rental properties across the U.S., combining design, hospitality, functionality, and experience. Every property we touch is a business. An owner hands us a listing that performs okay, and our job is to make it the one people screenshot and send to their group chat. That changes how you design: you're not choosing a sofa because it's beautiful, you're choosing it because of what it does to the photos, the reviews, and the nightly rate.
Full-property short-term rentals across multiple U.S. markets: interiors, exteriors, murals, amenities, and the listing photos that sell all of it. Bold color, strong personality, and a concept that holds together from the driveway to the back fence.
A remote design team spanning interior design, exterior design, graphic design, install coordination, video, and support — led by designers, not account managers. Your work gets reviewed by people who can actually critique it.
Remote from wherever you are, on a schedule that overlaps U.S. Central Time. Clear briefs, real deadlines, and direct feedback. If you've been stuck producing beige boxes for developers, this will feel like a different job.
Applies to every role
True for all four openings below, so we've said it once here rather than four times.
Open roles
Three are 3-month contracts covering our busy season, with the possibility of continuing afterward depending on performance, workload, and team needs. The Exterior Design Lead is different — that one is an in-house position from the start. We say all of this up front so nobody is surprised later.
Exterior Design
The creative, exploratory end of exterior design. Landscaping, architecture, furniture, and amenities pulled into one outdoor experience.
Interior Design
Space planning, furniture, materials, lighting, and styling. You translate a creative direction into a complete, executable interior.
Support & QA
Install Guides & Spreadsheet QA
The technical and quality-control side of design: shopping sheets, sourcing, availability, and install guides.
Exterior Design
An in-house leadership role. You mentor and develop the Exterior Design Team and hold the quality bar across projects.
How hiring works
One form for every role. Set aside about twenty minutes and have your files ready before you start.
One application form for all roles. You'll need a resume (PDF), a portfolio (file or link), and a 1–2 minute video introduction. Phone video is fine — we're listening to how you think, not judging your editing.
Every profile gets reviewed by the design team. During busy season that takes a few weeks, and we'd rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.
A conversation with the design team about your work, how you approach a brief, and what the role actually involves day to day. Bring questions.
For most design roles we'll ask for a small scoped exercise so we can see how you work. Scope and timeline are agreed with you first.
Tools and processes walked through with you, and your first property brief. For the three contract roles, strong performance opens the door to continuing with the team; the Exterior Design Lead is in-house from day one.
Before you apply
Most applications are decided here, so it's worth being deliberate about what you send.
Nothing fits right now?
Our team also includes graphic designers, 3D modelers, install coordinators, video editors, and project managers, and roles open through the year as our busy season builds. Send your work through the same form, pick the closest position (or Other), and tell us what you do. We keep strong profiles on hand and go back to them first.
