Interior Design
Interior Designer
- Fully remote
- Open globally
- 3-month contract
- 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CT
The interior equivalent of our exterior role: as creative, with the same expectation that the concept survives contact with reality. You decide what a guest sees when they open the listing and what they photograph once they arrive.
Why this role exists
Owners come to us with listings that perform okay. The interior is usually the reason they've stalled: a layout that doesn't work for groups, furniture chosen one piece at a time, nothing in the space that makes anyone want to post about it. This role fixes that, property by property, across multiple U.S. markets.
What makes this role distinct
All four of our openings need design judgment. What separates this one:
- Interior space planning and functionality — how a house works for the group staying in it, not just how it photographs.
- Furniture, materials, finishes, lighting, styling, and decor as one coordinated set of decisions.
- Developing cohesive concepts that respond to the specific property and its target guest.
- Translating a creative direction into a complete and executable interior — the gap between a nice idea and a buildable one is where this role lives.
- Strong visual judgment and attention to detail.
What you'll be responsible for
- Space planning for full properties — layouts, circulation, sleeping arrangements, and how groups actually use a house.
- Selecting furniture, materials, finishes, lighting, and decor within a defined budget, sourced from U.S. vendors.
- Developing a concept that responds to the property and the guest it's aimed at, then carrying it through every room.
- Styling that survives contact with real guests: it has to photograph well and hold up to turnover.
- Building and presenting concepts in SketchUp and Photoshop, at a standard a client can approve from.
- Designing the moments that get shared — the wall, the nook, the detail that ends up in someone's story.
- Working alongside exterior, graphic, and install teams so one concept runs through the whole property.
- Handing off documentation clean enough that shopping sheets and install guides can be built from it.
What we're looking for
- A background in interior design, architecture, or a closely related field, with projects you can walk us through.
- Strong SketchUp skills and comfort in Photoshop for presentation work.
- Real command of color and pattern. Our properties are bold, and a neutral-only portfolio is a hard sell here.
- Judgement about scale, materials, and finishes — you can tell when a piece is wrong for a room without being told.
- Comfort designing to a budget and a deadline, and explaining the trade-offs you made.
- Clear communication in writing and on calls, and the confidence to flag a problem early rather than absorb it.
- Experience with short-term rentals or hospitality is a plus, not a requirement.
The logistics
- 3-month contract covering our busy season, with the possibility of continuing afterward depending on performance, workload, and team needs. We're not presenting this as a guaranteed permanent position.
- Fully remote, with availability aligned to U.S. Central Time.
- Fluent English required. Spanish is a plus — a large part of our Design Team is based in Latin America.
- Stable internet and a computer that comfortably runs SketchUp and Photoshop.

Apply
One form covers every role at Funkit, so a couple of the fields need to be set correctly for your application to reach the right place.
- Remote Positions → Interior Designer
- Status → Full-Time (the contract is 3 months, at full-time hours)
Have these ready before you start: your resume as a PDF, your portfolio (file or link — Behance, Drive, or a site), and a 1–2 minute video introduction. The form lists the five questions to answer in the video. Phone video is completely fine.
