  • Design background required

A beautiful design that can't be bought is worthless. This role is the checkpoint between design and execution: you catch the wrong quantity, the dead link, and the sofa that ships in November.

Why this role exists

As we get closer to our busy season, we need someone organized, detail-oriented, and design-minded supporting the team behind the scenes so projects are genuinely ready to move from design into execution. It's ideal for someone with a design background who enjoys the organizational and technical side of the process as much as the creative one — and it's a real design job, not data entry. You need to know why a product is wrong, not just that a cell is empty.

How this differs from our designer roles

Worth being direct, because it changes who this suits. This position still requires a design background and a good visual eye, but it is much more focused on the technical, organizational, sourcing, and quality-control side of the design process.

Organization, attention to detail, sourcing skill, and good judgment matter more here than being a highly conceptual designer. If what you want is to develop concepts, the Interior Designer and Exterior Designer roles are the better fit — and there's no penalty for applying to those instead.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Reviewing project shopping spreadsheets before they move forward — product information, links, quantities, pricing, specifications, and overall accuracy.
  • Making sure selected items are appropriate for the project and aligned with the approved design.
  • Checking product availability and identifying potential issues before they become a problem.
  • Finding appropriate backup options when products are out of stock, while maintaining the intended look, function, quality, and budget.
  • Keeping shopping sheets clear, organized, and ready for purchasing.
  • Reviewing Install Guides so our installation teams have clear information on placement, quantities, specifications, and design intent.
  • Flagging inconsistencies, missing information, or potential issues to the design team.
  • Supporting clients through questions and out-of-stock items.

What we're looking for

  • A background in interior design, architecture, industrial design, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and a naturally organized way of working.
  • Good visual judgment and an understanding of scale, materials, finishes, furniture, and accessories.
  • Comfort researching products and sourcing alternatives from U.S. vendors.
  • The ability to compare options and make a thoughtful recommendation — not simply replace an unavailable product with the first similar item you find.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to flag questions or inconsistencies rather than quietly guessing.
  • Comfort working in spreadsheets and managing a high volume of detailed information.

The logistics

  • 3-month contract, with the possibility of continuing depending on performance, workload, and team needs.
  • Fully remote, with availability aligned to U.S. Central Time.
  • Fluent English required. Spanish is a plus — a large part of our Design Team is based in Latin America.
  • Comfortable working U.S. vendor hours for sourcing and availability checks.
  • Stable internet and a computer that handles spreadsheets and design files without slowing you down.

Apply

One form covers every role at Funkit, so a couple of the fields need to be set correctly for your application to reach the right place.

On the form, select:
  • Remote PositionsQA
  • StatusFull-Time (the contract is 3 months, at full-time hours)

Have these ready before you start: your resume as a PDF, a portfolio or work sample (a link is fine), and a 1–2 minute video introduction. The form lists the five questions to answer in the video. If you've built or maintained spec sheets, FF&E schedules, or procurement trackers before, mention it — that's directly relevant here.
